Abstract

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic condition characterized by the

backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus, leading to symptoms like heartburn,

regurgitation, and chest pain. The prevalence of GERD has increased significantly over the

past few decades, with diet and lifestyle factors being implicated in both its onset and

exacerbation. This paper explores the current insights into how diet and lifestyle impact

GERD, focusing on the role of specific foods, eating patterns, and lifestyle choices.

Additionally, it examines the scientific evidence surrounding weight management, smoking,

alcohol consumption, and sleep habits in relation to GERD. Understanding these factors is

crucial for the development of effective prevention and management strategies for GERD.
