The human microbiome, a vast community of microorganisms residing within and on the
human body, has emerged as a critical player in health and disease. This paper explores the
growing field of microbiome-based drug development and therapeutic strategies, highlighting
the potential for microbiome-targeted interventions in treating a variety of conditions. We
review the key mechanisms through which the microbiome influences human health, the
emerging tools and technologies that enable microbiome modulation, and the challenges and
opportunities in translating microbiome science into clinical practice. The paper concludes
with an outlook on the future of microbiome-based therapeutics and the need for continued
research to harness its full potential.
